What We Kept Seeing

Two gaps in how medtech teams sell and a program for each.

Capital and disruptive technology

Your best reps are moving fast on assumptions. Your newest reps don't know which questions to ask.

Years of experience let reps move quickly, but that speed runs on assumptions, and the way hospitals buy keeps changing. CDI gives the whole team one current process and the same questions, so everyone sells from the same playbook. It works for capital and for any disruptive technology.

Clinical reps and specialists

Your clinical reps already have the trust, but may not be comfortable with the ask.

As commercial models change, more companies count on clinical specialists to surround and protect the account, and many were never taught the selling side. CSI builds on the credibility they have already earned and makes the ask, and the selling language around it, feel natural.

The Portfolio

Two flagship programs, built on one foundation.

Clinical Sales Intelligence and Capital Decision Intelligence are the two programs Octave is built around. Each one stands on its own, and each is grounded in emotional intelligence and genuine connection.

Built for medtech commercial teams, from clinical sales reps to capital equipment specialists to the leaders coaching them, and any team that sells through complex, technical buying decisions.

Flagship

CSI

Clinical Sales Intelligence

Selling rooted in emotional intelligence.

Built on the EQ-i 2.0, CSI helps clinical reps sharpen their sales skills and gives tenured sales reps a stronger clinical approach. Use it to open a new account, grow utilization in one you already own, win over a competitive surgeon, or launch a new product.

Flagship

CDI

Capital Decision Intelligence

Learn how capital equipment decisions really get made.

CDI covers committee dynamics, silent stakeholders, and the real reasons deals stall or slip. It also shows why accurate forecasting matters, how to get a stalled evaluation moving again, and gives your team a common forecasting language.

The Foundation

Rewired

Rewired shifts how commercial teams think: how they see their accounts, how they handle ambiguity, and how they respond when the plan breaks. It is the foundation for teams that want to start there, and the flagships do not require it.

Also available

CLI Coaching Leadership Intelligence

Coaching, feedback, and situational leadership, anchored by an ICF-certified coach.

Senior leader, medtech

Let's talk about your team

The Founders

Built by people who did the job.

Two commercial leaders who built Octave from decades of selling, leading, and training medtech sales teams themselves.

Marisa Burnett, Founder of Octave Development

Marisa Burnett

Founder

Marisa has led medtech commercial teams for more than 20 years at Medtronic and Hologic, across robotics, navigation, imaging, neuro, and spine. She earned President's Club as both a rep and a leader, turned around three underperforming districts (one to #2 in the nation), and drove eight large capital conversions in the Northeast plus one of the largest in the West.

She is certified in EQ-i 2.0 and has trained and developed more than 1,000 sales reps and leaders.

Known for turning around underperforming teams, earning trust fast through authentic leadership, and turning that trust into real, measurable results, even in specialties she has never sold.

Why Octave

Built from the field, for the deals your team is working today.

We believe leadership is influence, and that every person in an organization can influence, regardless of title. Our depth comes from medtech, but the same principles hold anywhere selling means navigating complex buying committees, technical credibility, and trust.

Octave builds commercial training from real field experience, and everything we teach, we have lived: carrying the bag, running districts, leading teams through change, and winning in the same kinds of accounts your team is competing in right now. Nothing is adapted from generic corporate training, because all of it was built from the field up.

Most vendors show up, teach a framework, and leave without ever learning your accounts, your committees, or the deal your team is actually working. We take a different approach. We workshop your real deals in the room with your team, so every hour you take out of the territory turns into a concrete plan your people walk out with.

The Approach

Insight grounded in validated assessments.

Several of our programs and standalone team sessions are anchored in certified assessments, so coaching conversations start from a shared map instead of a debate.

These programs exist because sales leaders and stakeholders told us exactly what they needed, and we built from there. Every program can be customized to your team's specific challenges. Most run one to one and a half days, and short-format sessions on the EQ-i, CliftonStrengths, and our other assessments can be as brief as 90 minutes. Each one is designed as a working session rather than a lecture, and can be delivered in person, virtually, or as a hybrid, whichever fits your team.

The learning also holds up after the training ends. Every engagement includes post-program reinforcement and manager coaching plans, and the new behaviors are applied to live deals before the session ends. Training that touches real revenue can be measured, and that is how development becomes a return on investment instead of a one-time event.

Any of this can also be delivered as a half-day team session or kickoff workshop, with no long program required.

EQ-i 2.0Emotional intelligence under pressure, which is trainable, measurable, and central to how deals are won.
Gallup CliftonStrengthsMakes visible what your team already does well, so putting the right people in the right roles gets easier when everyone shares the same map.
Working GeniusShows how people are wired to work, so the same talent gets applied where it counts.
ICF-Certified CoachingOur coaching programs are anchored by an ICF-certified coach with three decades of quota-carrying leadership behind the credential.

How It Works

From first conversation to a plan your team walks out with.

01

Discovery conversation

Tell us about your team, your accounts, and what is actually getting in the way.

02

Program design

We start from the two flagships, customize a program, or build a multiprogram pathway for your team.

03

Workshop delivery

Delivered in person, virtually, or as a hybrid, in sessions that run from 90 minutes to a day and a half.

04

Follow-through

Post-program reinforcement and manager coaching plans keep the new behaviors alive. We also take on a limited number of teams for ongoing retainer support.

Because a stronger commercial team means more patients reached and more lives improved.
